Valerie Chiasson set to compete in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux

The first female driver to earn an overall podium position at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montréal (2015 in Nissan Micra Cup) and the only female driver to contest the 2016 Grand Prix du Canada (in Canadian Porsche GT3 Cup), Valérie Chiasson, originally from Repentigny (Québec), will climb another rung in her driving career this year after being recruited by Belgian team DVB Racing to take part in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux.

Valérie Chiasson, who is currently residing in Grand Duché, Luxembourg, will be the only Canadian female driver to ever contest this series, with events in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and Spain.

« Being able to drive on some of the most beautiful tracks in the world like Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, and to take part in the European Coupe Porsche GT3 series, a type of series that I find to be very professional, tough, and motivating for the drivers, was always one of my goals » confided Valérie Chiasson. She added : « thanks to the DVB Racing team, my German sponsor EVO Information Systeme and other partners that will be announced at later date, I am able to participate in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux this season.  It’s really something special ! » she added.

Valérie Chiasson will share the wheel of the DVB Racing car with another driver, who will be announced by the team in the next few days.  Each race weekend will be comprised of two rounds; Valérie will contest the first and her teammate the second.  « It’s a plan that suits me because it allows me to learn these European tracks.  2017 is a discovery season for me in Europe, to be present on each track, to participate in the free practices and qualifying session, as well as one of the two rounds is ideal » commentated Valérie, who is also the Canadian representative of the FIA "Women in Motorsport" Commission, which encourages women’s participation in motorsport.

Having started in motorsport with karting at the age of 12, Valérie Chiasson then participated in the Toyota Cup in Quebec, the ACT Québec series (oval races similar to NASCAR), the Canadian Touring Car Championship (Top Novice and Top 4 in her inaugural race at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in 2014), the Nissan Micra Cup (Top 6 in the 2015 championship), and the Canadian Porsche GT3 Cup last year. She also contested rounds in a Stohr WF1 prototype in 2014, earning three victories and a total of six podiums in her six races at the Circuit Mont-Tremblant.

The 2017 season of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux will start on May 5th, with two rounds presented on the Spa-Francorchamps track as supporting races in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Two weeks later, on May 20th and 21st, the third and fourth rounds of the 2017 season will be held on the Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands.  The series will then make a stop at the Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans (France) mid-juin, but the DVB Racing team will not take part in this event.  For Valérie, it would’ve been difficult for her to participate in any case, as  she is scheduled to contest the two Canadian Porsche GT3 Cup rounds only a few days earlier.

She will take to the start of six races (three events) in the Canadian Porsche GT3 Cup this season, including the Grand Prix du Canada in Montréal, the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières in August, and the Mosport NASCAR weekend in early September.  This program in her native country will be presented in collaboration with Total Canada and other partners, who will be disclosed prior to the GP du Canada at the beginning of June.

After the Montreal event, Valérie Chiasson will return to the European circuits in July, first in Zandvoort, before competing in Zolder, Belgium on September 16th and 17th. The 2017 season finale will be held in Barcelona, Spain, on yet another Formula 1 track.  These last two races of the season will be as support races for the international Blancpain GT championship, on September 20th and October 1st.  In all, Valérie will contest five races in the series.

Valérie Chiasson’s participation in this season’s Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Benelux is in partnership with DVB Racing, EVO Information Systeme and VB Energy.
