Laurens Vanthoor enjoyed a very strong race weekend at Long Beach, home of the third round of the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The famous California track played host to the only GTLM street race of the season.
Laurens Vanthoorn who qualified fourth on Friday, performed well at the wheel of the Porsche GT Team-run #912 Porsche RSR. He shared the car with co-driver Kevin Estre, and was able to lead the GTLM field in the opening stages of the 100-minute event.
Vanthoor and Estre, who lost some positions in mid-race, took full advantage of the chaotic finish and were able to clinch a podium. The very first one for the Belgian GT ace in North American sportscar racing.
"We actually didn’t expect to be on the podium. But we’re happy to take it home." stated Laurens Vanthoor."My teammates told me a lot about Long Beach, but I hadn’t expected it to be quite so turbulent here."
The next round for Laurens Vanthoor with Porsche GT Team in the IMSA series will be at the Circuit of the Americas.
