Marco Ujhasi, the overall project leader for factory GT racing at Porsche Motorsport is looking forward to a strong Rolex 24 at Daytona. The opening round of the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportCar Championship.
The German manufacturer will be competing with two brand new Porsche 911 RSR cars in the highly competitive GT Le Mans (GTLM) class.
Patrick Pilet, Dirk Werner and Frédéric Makowiecki will be at the wheel of the #911 Porsche. Laurens Vanthoor, Kévin Estre and Richard Lietz will be sharing the sister #912 machine.
"Daytona is the first big race of the year and that alone poses a special challenge. Adding to the suspense this year is that it’s the first race outing of our new 911 RSR", said Marco Ujhasi.
About the new car and the driver line-up: "We conducted intensive tests over the last few months and gained vital insights. The new driver combinations have already meshed well together"
He added: "So, in this respect, we’re heading to Daytona feeling very confident"
This is will be the fourth year for Porsche with a factory-backed team in the IMSA series. The effort will be under Porsche GT Team banner, in the previous years, the team competed as Porsche North America.
