Nicki Thiim and his team-mate Marco Sørensen collected vital points in the 6 Hours of Shanghai. The two Aston Martin Racing drivers may have missed the podium but were ahead of their rivals in the race for the GTE-Pro championship title.
Their Young Driver AMR run #95 Aston Martin Vantage GTE ended the Chinese six-hour event in fourth place in class, one more ahead of Ferrari's Davide Rigon and Sam Bird.
With just one race left in the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship, Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen are clearly now the big favourites to clinch the GTE-Pro title in Bahrain, home of the season finale.
Nicki Thiim was delighted with strong perfornaces in Shanghai and gave full credits to his team at the end of the race.
That really went as planned. We mainly wanted to beat the #71 Ferrari and that’s what we did. It’s perfect for us in the GT Drivers Championship going into the final round.
It’s been an intense weekend and you definitely feel like the end is getting closer. This championship is just something special right now, but I am glad that it’s only two weeks to go until the next race as I just want to get back to it and fight hard for the title.
