Nicki Thiim and his team-mate Marco Sørensen were third fastest in GTE-Pro in today's qualifying session at Shanghai International Circuit
The two Danish Aston Martin drivers, who shared the Young Driver AMR run #95 Aston Martin Vantage GTE, were right behind two factory Ford GTs but ahead of their rivals from Ferrari.
Nicki Thiim was delighted with the qualifying performances and looks forward to strong six-hour event tomorrow. A crucial round in the battle for the GTE-Pro driver's title in FIA World Endurance Championship with just two rounds to go.
I am really happy. This is a pole position for us. It’s getting to the critical end of the season and the stakes are getting higher, so P3 is really what I wanted and expected.
The plan was just to get ahead of the Ferraris and that’s what we got. My teammate just had to do a good job in his opening laps which he did and I was able to finish the job thankfully.
It’s a long race for the drivers and the car, so we just have to go and do our best to secure the points we need for the championship. That’s all we can do.
