Interview with Ferrari star Andrea Bertolini

Andrea Bertolini had a very unlucky end of the season in the European Le Mans Series. The Ferrari factory driver narrowly missed the 2016 GTE title in the Estoril finale with JMW Motorsport.

The Italian ace proved to be one of the fastest drivers in the field and clinched this class victories in this year's competition, at the Red Bull Ring, Paul Ricard and Spa-Francorchamps.

Andrea Bertolini also raced the brand new Ferrari 488 GTE at Le Mans 24 Hours with AF Corse (GTE-Pro) and in three IMSA events with Ferrari customer teams (GTLM).

We recently interviewed Andrea Bertolini about his 2016 season in the European Le Mans Series with JMW Motorsport and more.

The ELMS finale at Estoril was a dramatic one for JMW Motorsport, how frustrating was it to miss the title in the last round of the season?

You know, sport could be like this… It was nearly impossible to miss it because we only needed to finish the race.

In the end we paid a huge price for the disqualification at Silverstone. It would have been my 9th GT championship and I was quite disappointed but it was a strong season and with Rob and Rory we enjoyed a lot. Anyway I’m not giving up and I will try again next year!

JMW Motorsport proved to be one of the strongest GTE squads in Europe, tell us more about the team.

JMW is a family more than a team but everyone is really professional. Jim and Valerie are was special and they deserved the title. I tried everything to win as well as Rob and Rory.

How competitive is the GTE field in the European Le Mans Series?

There was a very close strong competition all year long but always fair.

You have competed in three IMSA WeathTech SportsCar Championship races this year, how strong is the GTLM field in North America?

Personally I think it is one of the best and competitive GT Championship and always the last our of every race is amazing

You have won so many titles with Ferrari and Maserati in GT racing, which one is you favourite?

They are like a sons.... There’s not a favorite one. I like all 8 of them. I could even answer like Enzo Ferrari did when was talking about his best car: “The next one”…

What is your favourite racing circuit?

I’ve not just one. I could say many tracks in the US, Spa-Francorchamps and Mugello. But I can tell you that every circuit in which you win is fantastic!
