No GTE-Pro effort for Proton Competition in the 2017 FIA WEC

Proton Competition will not have any GTE-Pro effort in the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship. Speaking to Sportscar365, team owner Christian Ried ruled out any involvement in the upper GTE class of the global sportscar series in next year's competition.

Porsche will return as a full factory team with Manthey Racing and a pair of brand new Porsche 911 RSRs. A big reason to push Proton Competition to focus on their GTE-Am efforts in FIA World Endurance Championship and the GTE ones in the European Le Mans Series.

The German squad is currently having a single-car effort in GTE-Pro in FIA World Endurance Championship with a semi-works Porsche 911 RSR driven by 2015 champion Richard Lietz and Michael Christensen under the Dempsey Proton Racing banner with some mixed performances and results.

The team is also competing in GTE-Am with two cars, the #88 Porsche 911 RSR of Abu Dhabi Proton Racing, the class winning car at the 6 Hours of Mexico and the #78 Porsche 911 RSR from KCMG.
