Front row for Abu Dhabi Proton Racing at 6 Hours of Mexico

Team Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing will start alongside the pole-setter after going second-fastest in qualifying for Round 5 of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the 6 Hours of Mexico, at the Autodrome Hermanos Rodriguez Circuit in Mexico City.

The UAE’s Khaled Al Qubaisi will share driving duties with David Heinemeier Hansson and Patrick Long behind the wheel of the No.88 Porsche 911 RSR.

The team had an excellent opening weekend, going second fastest in Free Practices 1 and 2 with times of 1:43.194 and 1:42.562 respectively and then put pedal to metal to go fastest in Free Practice 3 with a best time of 1:41.823 in the LMGTE Am class.

It was also going to be challenging racing for the first time at the Autodrome Hermanos Rodriguez Circuit and the rising temperatures added to the quality field going into the qualifying round. Still, Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing did well to secure P2 and will now start the 6 Hours of Mexico alongside the pole-setter.

Khaled Al Qubaisi Al Qubaisi:

The qualifying was OK. The track temperature went up after the morning’s Free Practice 3 which affected us more than the Aston ahead.

Nevertheless, P2 is a good position to start the race. Overtaking is very tough at this circuit, so it will be a nice challenge with the Aston.

Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing will now be looking to secure as many points as possible in order to narrow the gap at the top. The team is just two points behind the second-placed team.
