Dirk Müller leads GTLM in COTA opening practice session

Action has started at the Circuit of The Americas as the near Austin track hosted the opening IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship practice session.

In the ultra competitive GT Le Mans class (GTLM), Ford Chip Ganassi Racing's Dirk Müller and Joey Hand were the fastest at the wheel of the #66 Ford GT. Dirk Müller set the quickest time in the nine-car field with 2:04.638.

Porsche North America's Nick Tandy and Patrick Pilet were second fastest with the #911 Porsche 911 RSR, their best time was 2:04.913.

Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook completed the top-three in GTLM with the #67 Ford GT from Ford Chip Ganassi Racing.

Ferrari works drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander were fourth with the Risi Competizione run #62 488 GTE. Corvette Racing's Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin were fifth with the #4 Corvette C7.R.

BMW was the only brand outside the top-five in GTLM. The #25 BMW M6 GTLM was sixth and the sister #100 car was eighth.
