JMW Motorsport wins GTE at 4 Hours of Paul Ricard

Ferrari and JMW Motorsport have taken the GTE class victory at the 4 Hours of the Paul Ricard, the fourth round of the 2016 European Le Mans Series. A second straight victory for the British squad in the ELMS following last month's win at the Red Bull Ring.

The Paul Ricard race was a true thriller in GTE with some amazing battles for class supremacy between Ferrari and Aston Martin.

The winning #66 Ferrari 488 Italia was driven by Robert Smith, Rory Butcher and Andrea Bertolini. They finished the race in eighteenth place overall and covered a total of 115 laps. The JMW Motorsport Ferrari had a splash and dash in the closing stages of the race, it dropped to second but retook the lead again with less than ten minute to go as the Formula Racing Ferrari had to do the same.

Formula Racing's Johnny Laursen and Mikkel Mac took a strong second place at the wheel of the #60 Ferrari 458 Italia, their best result in this year's European Le Mans Series. Team's regular Christina Nielsen did not take part in the event as she is competing in IMSA this weekend.

Andrew Howard, Alex MacDowall and Darren Turner, who started from pole position, completed the top-three in GTE class sharing the #99 Aston Martin Vantage GTE from Beechdean AMR.

The AT Racing #56 Ferrari 458 Italia was fourth. The AF Corse #55 Ferrari 458 Italia was fifth. The Proton Competition #77 Porsche 911 RSR was sixth. Two cars did not finish the four-hour event, the AF Corse #51 Ferrari 458 Italia and the Proton Competition #88 Porsche 911 RSR.
