BMW Team RLL leads GTLM in Watkins Glen opening practice

BMW was the fastest in the ultra competitive GT Le Mans (GTLM) class in the opening IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship practice session at Watkins Glen.

Factory drivers Dirk Werner and Bill Auberlen set the best time in class with 1:43.574 driving the BMW Team RLL run #25 BMW M6 GTLM and covered a total of 16 laps.

Fresh winners at Le Mans 24 Hours, Ford Chip Ganassi Racing performed well in FP1. Dirk Muller and Joey Hand were second fastest at the wheel of the #66 Ford GT. Their best time was 1:43.575, just 0.001 behind the BMW's time.

The top-three in GTLM was completed by second Ford Chip Ganassi Racing entry, the #67 Ford GT driven by Richard Westbrook and Ryan Briscoe.

Risi Competizione #62 Ferrari 488 GTE was fourth. BMW Team RLL #100 BMW M6 GTLM was fifth. Scuderia Corsa #68  Ferrari 488 GTE was sixth. Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C7.R was seventh. Porsche North America #912 Porsche 911 RSR was eighth. Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C7.R was ninth. Porsche North America #911 Porsche 911 RSR was tenth in class.
