Proton Competition takes a dominant GTE victory at Imola


The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari at Imola played host to a thrilling European Le Mans Series round two this afternoon. The four-hour event started with perfect weather but concluded behind the Saftey Car. The track conditions were simply horrible as the heavy rain came in the last hour of the race.

Proton Competition and Porsche took a dominant victory in the LM GTE class. The winning #77 Porsche 911 RSR was shared by Wolf Henzler, Michael Hedlund and Robert Renauer. They started from pole position and were the strongest in a very competitve GTE class. The Proton Porsche ended the race ahead of the whole LMP3 field.


Second place went to the JMW Motorsport #66 Ferrari 458 Italia driven by Robert Smith, Rory Butcher and Andrea Bertolini. The British team was among the quickest all weekend long in Imola.

The LM GTE podium was completed by the AT Racing #56 Ferrari 458 Italia in the hands of Davide Rigon, Alexander Talkanitsa Sr and Alexander Talkanitsa Jr.

The Proton Competition #88 Porsche was fourth. The #99 Beechdean AMR #99 Aston Martin was fifth. AF Corse had a furstrating home event, the #55 Ferrari was sixth and the sister #51 Ferrari was seventh.

The next round in European Le Mans Series will be held at the Red Bull Ring, July 17th.
