GTE-Am Preview - FIA WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps
It's race week for FIA World Endurance Championship teams and drivers. The premier sportscar series is moving to Belgium and the demanding Spa-Francorchamps circuit for what should be another six-hour thriller.
The GTE-Am field in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will feature a great selection of cars and teams represeting four different manufacturers.
Victorious last time out at Silverstone, Ferrari and AF Corse will target a new GTE-Am victory in the Belgian Ardennes. The lone Ferrari 458 Italia of the field will be driven by François Perrodo, Emmanuel Collard and Rui Aguas.
Porsche will have three customer Porsche 911 RSRs at Spa-Francorchamps. At Silverstone the cars from Stuttgart were the fastest in GTE-Am but faced a lot of bad luck with crashes and technical issues. The three Porsche teams will be eager to bounce back and challenge for class supremacy.
The KCMG entry will be driven by Christian Ried, Wolf Henzler and Joël Camathias. The Gulf Racing Porsche will be shared by Michael Wainwright, Adam Carroll and Benjamin Barker. The Abu-Dhabi Proton Racing will feature the return of Patrick Long who skipped the opening round, the Porsche works driver will be joined by Khaled Al Qubaisi and David Heinemeier Hansson.
Aston Martin will be represented by a single Vantage GTE from the factory Aston Martin Racing team. The #98 car will be in the hands of Paul Dalla Lana, Pedro Lamy and Mathias Lauda. They took a strong second at Silverstone and they will be targeting another strong performance at Spa. Aston Martin Racing is the only team using Dunlop tires in GTE-Am.
The strong GTE-Am field is completed by the "French American", the Corvette C7.R from Larbre Competition. The team took a podium at Silverstone with Pierre Ragues, Paolo Ruberti and Yutaka Yamagishi and they will be seeking for strong results in the Belgian event.
