Andrew Howard, Darren Turner and Alex Macdowall were able to successfully hold onto their European Le Mans Series GTE championship lead with a 5th place finish at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, Imola for the Beechdean Aston Martin Racing team.
On what was the teams first visit to Imola, a podium place was on the cards for the duration of the race until a late downpour in the final hour of proceedings saw the #99 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE slip to 5th in class. The last hour of the 4 hour endurance race was held under FCY and Safety Car conditions, meaning that no further progress was possible.
It was great to race at such an iconic circuit – FCY and weather didn’t match our strategy but it goes that way sometimes. I’d also like to say a big thanks to the drivers and the team.
The team hold a slender 2 point advantage over their nearest rivals heading to the next round in Austria on the 15th-17th July.
