Olivier Pla is competing this year in the FIA World Endurance Championship with the factory Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK.
The French sportscar ace will be behind the wheel of the brand new Ford GT in all-nine events of the FIA WEC within the demanding GTE-Pro class. He will share the #66 Ford GT with Stefan Mücke and Billy Johnson.
Olivier Pla took part last weekend in the traditional Prologue at the Paul Ricard circuit, the official FIA WEC two-day test. The Ford works driver had a chat with French media Autohebdo.fr about the new Ford GT and how different is compared to LMP2 and GT3 cars.
We can't say that the car (Ford GT) is a Prototype. It's heavier even with the fact that the (GTE) technical regulation has changed and the cars in class are more aerodynamic.
I have raced in the past with a GT3 car - a Ferrari 458 Italia - and some say that GTE and GT3 cars are really close, that's not true. I can tell you that a GTE race car is something really different. A GT3 couldn't match a GTE, the chassis is different, a GTE car is a lot more aerodynamic and we have the confidential Michelin tyres.
