Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing took their maiden pole position in class during qualifying for the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the 6 Hours of Silverstone from April 15-17, in Great Britain.
The Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing team comprising of Khaled Al Qubaisi, David Heinemeier Hansson of Denmark and Klaus Bachler of Austria had to watch on as FP3 was abandoned because of snow and instead prep up for the qualifying session to follow.
Driving the #88 Porsche 911 RSR Bachler and Al Qubaisi took to the wheel in turns during the 20-minute qualifying session, with Bachler clocking 2min 14.639sec while Al Qubaisi went 2min 15.566 sec for an average of 2min 15.102 sec to secure their maiden pole position in class for the six-hour race on Sunday.
Khaled Al Qubaisi said:
We are very happy with our first pole position in the championship. Everything went well for us in qualifying and the car was terrific despite the dipping temperatures. We were faster than most in Pro class, which gives us huge confidence going into the race. We will see how it goes on Sunday.
