Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing overcame late suspension failure to finish fifth in class at the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the 6 Hours of Silverstone in Great Britain, and pick up important points for the championship.
The Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing team comprising of Khaled Al Qubaisi, David Heinemeier Hansson and Klaus Bachler started from pole and were there right in front and always on the pace for the win, if not a place on the podium.
And while leading until the last 30 minutes of the six-hour endurance, suspension failure with the right front of the #88 Porsche 911 RSR meant that a 21-minute pit-stop in the closing stages of the raced cost the team a place on the podium.
Khaled Al Qubaisi said:
We obviously were in contention not just for a podium place but for the win. Unfortunately, during the last 30 minutes of the six-hour race we hit a problem with the suspension, Klaus had to pit but the technicians did a good job to ensure we finished the race.
What is important is that we displayed pace over the weekend that surprised many and I believe that big success is just round the corner. Our focus now is on Spa because we have to move forward and aim for the best result and the championship.
