No customer Ford GTs in FIA WEC and IMSA in 2017
Ford is returning to top international GT racing with a double factory effort. The American brand is competing this year in FIA World Endurance Championship and in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with two brand new Ford GT racers in each series. A total of four Fords will enter the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours.
All of the cars are in the hands of the factory supported Ford Chip Ganassi Racing. Dave Pericak the head of Ford Performance confirmed to Sportscar365 that there will be no customer Ford GTs in the first two years of the program.
The blue oval brand will exclusively focus on the works entries in both IMSA and FIA WEC. Dave Pericak also confirmed that Ford isn't interested in GT3 racing and that the new Ford GT has been built with one specific target, Le Mans.
