Competitive GT Le Mans field in Daytona Saturday tests


The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship teams were back on track on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway. The second day of the Roar Before the Rolex 24 featured three test sessions. The GT Le Mans class was competitive. Three different brands topped each of the three sessions.

Corvette Racing was the fastest in first session of the day, which was highlighted by the fog. The #3 Corvette C7.R driven by Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller set the best time in class with 1:45.256.

Second place in GTLM went to the #67 Ford GT (Ford Performance Chip Ganassi Racing). The top-three was completed by the #68 Ferrari 488 GTE (Scuderia Corsa).


In the second session it was Ferrari turn to lead the GT Le Mans field. The Scuderia Corsa run #68 Ferrari 488 GTE shared by Memo Rojas Alexandre Premat, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Daniel Serra set a best time of 1:45.266.

The #67 Ford GT (Ford Performance Chip Ganassi Racing) was again second in class. Third place went to the #3 Corvette C7.R (Corvette Racing.


The third and final session of the day was a night one. BMW Team RLL was the quickest in GTLM setting a best time of 1:45.510. The leading #25 BMW M6 GTLM was driven by Bill Auberlen, Dirk Werner, Augusto Farfus and Bruno Spengler.

Ford Performance Chip Ganassi Racing was again second with the very same #67 Ford GT. The sister #66 Ford GT completed the top-three in GT Le Mans class.

The Roar Before the Rolex 24 will be concluded on Sunday with two remaining test sessions.
