BMW the fastest in GTLM in the opening test session at Daytona

Action has started at Daytona International Speedway, home of the traditional Roar Before the Rolex 24. The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship teams and drivers took part in a very close opening test session.

In the GT Le Mans class, BMW was the fastest with the brand new M6 GTLM. Lucas Luhr, John  Edwards, Kuno Wittmer and Graham Rahal were the quickest behind the wheel of the #100 BMW and set the best time in class with 1:45.088.

Second place in GT Le Mans went to the #4 Corvette C7.R from Corvette Racing shared by Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Audi star Marcel Fassler. They set a best time of 1:45.367. The car sustained fire during the session with Tommy Milner behind the wheel.

The top-three in class was completed by a brand new Ford GT from Ford Performance Chip Ganassi Racing. Joey Hand, Dirk .Müller and Sébastien Bourdais were third fastest with their #66 car.

The #3 Corvette C7.R (Corvette Racing) of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller was fourth. The #72 Ferrari 488 GTE (SMP Racing) of Viktor  Shaitar, Andrea Bertolini, Gianmaria Bruni and James Calado was fifth.

Porsche North America ended the session in positions sixth and seventh. Earl Bamber, Frederic Makowiecki and Michael Christensen were sixth with the #912 RSR. Their team-mates Patrick Pilet, NickTandy and Kevin Estre were seventh with the sister #911 Porsche.
