Team Falken Tire 2015 IMSA season review
Team Falken Tire competed this year in the very demanding the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. The Derrick Walker managed squad entered a single Porsche 911 RSR shared by factory driver Wolf Henzler and team's regualr Bryan Sellers. The two drivers performed well but were unlucky in too many IMSA races. They ended the season in seventh place in GTLM points standing.
Team Falken Tire 2015 season started with the traditional Rolex 24 at Daytona. Wolf Henzler and Bryan Sellers were joined in the Florida classic by Porsche works driver, Patrick Long. It was a frustrating 24-hour event for the privateer Porsche team, they ended the race in eighth place in GTLM class.
At the 12 Hours of Sebring, Team Falken Tire duo was joined again by Patrick Long. Team Falken Tire had a very strong race and ended took a deserved podium after a hard and fought 12-hour event. Wolf Henzler, Bryan Sellers and Patrick Long ended in third place in GTLM behind the winning Corvette C7.R (Corvette Racing) and the second placed Ferrari 458 Italia (Risi Competizione).
Team Falken Tire faced a lot of bad luck in the two Californian events of the season. At Long Beach, Wolf Henzler and Bryan Sellers were sixth in GTLM. At Laguna Seca they ended eighth in class.
The following round for GT Le Mans cars was the prestigious 6 Hours of Watkins Glen. Team Falken Tire's Porsche 911 RSR had a magical weekend and won the event in GTLM. Wolf Henzler and Bryan Sellers were just impressive and took the checkered flag victorious ahead of the factory Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR driven by Jörg Bergmeister, Earl Bamber and Nick Tandy.
Unfortunately Team Falken Tire had a very frustrating second part in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. After their storming victory at Watkins Glen, Wolf Henzler and Bryan Sellers missed the podium in all following events.
They were eighth in Canada at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, eighth again at Road America and seven in the all GT race of Virginia International Raceway.
Team Falken Tire improved in Austin at the Circuit of the Americas as Wolf Henzler and Bryan Sellers narrowly missed GTLM podium by ending the event in fourth place.
The season finale was held once again at Road Atlanta, home of the traditional Petit Le Mans. Team Falken Tire won the events twice, in 2013 and 2014 and was aiming high in Georgia. Wolf Henzler Bryan Sellers and Patrick Long started the raced very well and were among the fastest in the field. However they had to face difficult weather and track conditions. They finished the shortened Petit Le Mans in seventh place within the GTLM class.
Petit Le Mans was the last ever race for the popular Team Falken Tire. The privateer Porsche team will surely be missed by all sportscar fans around the world.
